Joe Paul Cyriac is a photographer and artist based in Thiruvananthapuram, India, working across editorial, documentary and commercial photography. Over the past decade he has worked with publications including The Hindu, The Caravan, Rest of World, and Journey of Objects, and with brands and organisations across India.
He trained at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in Dhaka and at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover, Germany, where he studied on a DAAD scholarship. His work has been presented at the Noorderlicht International Photo Festival (Netherlands), Lumix Festival (Germany), and Egaro Photo Festival (India), and supported by the Indian Foundation for the Arts' 25x25 initiative for his series Abyss.
Alongside his commissioned work, he makes long-term photographic projects rooted in ecology and the intimacies of belonging. He is also the co-founder of Neighbour, an artist-run exhibition and public programming space in Thiruvananthapuram.
